The Žalec municipality lies in the central part of Slovenia, in the Lower Savinja Valley, which is called “the Valley of Green Gold” due to its numerous hops fields, and is regarded as the centre of Slovenian hop growing. The biggest attraction is the Green Gold Fountain of beer as a tribute to the hop growing heritage. The development of hops processing over time is presented in the Ecomuseum of Hops Growing and Brewing of Slovenia. Žalec also has a rich natural and cultural heritage with numerous sights.
