The Municipality of Markovci consists of nine settlements on the flat area of 32 km², along the left bank of the artificial lake and the Drava River. It has 4,200 inhabitants. It is surrounded by the Šturmovci Landscape Park in the southwest, with more than 250 different bird species. It is known for numerous cultural events, where the ethnological customs and heritage is revived and preserved with magical creatures lead by the Korant. The Ethnographic Museum at the top of the municipal building depicts these characters with great detail.
